Vitoria-Gasteiz



The candidature of Vitoria-Gasteiz as the venue of the 2014 JIA is guaranteed by a comfortable and friendly city, with services and good connections with the entire Peninsula. Vitoria-Gasteiz is one of the European cities with greater surface of green areas by person (about 42 square meters per resident if we include the extension of the Anillo Verde/ “green ring”). In the Basque capital you may find more than ten millions of square meters of parks and green areas to go for a walk or a bike ride. Besides, it is the economic and social centre of the province of Alava.


ACCESS AND CONNECTIONS

Vitoria is a very accessible city by different means:

- By car: highway, motorway AP-1, AP-68, A-1, A-2, etc.
- By plane: the airport of Loiu in Bilbao (and then by bus to Vitoria)
- By bus and train: connections with the main province capitals and intermediate cities

Regarding to the tourist and leisure offer in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, is very varied. Among the main tourist attractions we must mention the visit to the cathedral “Abierto por obras”, the visit of the medieval walls of the city, different museums (ARTIUM, Arm museum, BIBAT museum of Archaeology, etc.) and various green areas and parks (Armentia, Salburua, etc.). Another interesting point is the gastronomic tourism, including the typical “pintxos” as well as traditional courses in a diversity of restaurants with very varied prices. Also, the city, as a university area, has a great nightlife with wide party areas.
